"Clam Capital of the World"
A well-known fun fact about the city of Pismo Beach is its charming nickname as the "Clam Capital of the World." The city first adopted this moniker back in the 1950s when clamming was and still is a popular pastime, drawing thousands of participants during low tide at one time. Pismo Beach also hosts the Clam Festival every year during the month of October and features fun events and competitions like the clam chowder contest and even a clam-themed parade.

Pismo State Beach
Residents and visitors love Pismo Beach not only for its clams and friendly neighbors, but also for its fun recreational lifestyle. Sun worshippers, beach babies and surfers love Pismo State Beach for its waves, sand and sun. This state beach is also a popular place to go clamming for the community's own Pismo clam. Nature lovers enjoy this beach for its many opportunities to go bird watching and for discovering Monarch butterflies at the Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove. If you'd much rather ride along the sand dunes of the beach, ATV rentals are available just two blocks from the park. The state beach also allows camping.

Pismo Beach's climate is moderate throughout most of the year with the winter months being in the mid to high 60's; the high 60's to low 70's during the spring; low 70's during the summer months; and low 70's to the high 60's during the autumn.
